THE MICROSTRUCTURE OF EQUITY AND CURRENCY MARKETS

September 9 and 10, 2005, Oslo, Norway


Norges Bank and the Norwegian School of Management are pleased to invite to a two day conference on Market Microstructure. The conference will be held in Oslo, Norway, September 9 and 10, 2005.

The conference is to be an academic forum for current research in market microstructure. The conference goes over two days. Each day will concentrate on papers analyzing one of the two markets: Equity and Currency. Possible topics are:

Foreign Exchange Markets

 

A research conference jointly sponsored by:

Journal of International Money and Finance

 

The Frank J. Petrilli Center for Research in International Finance at Fordham University

 and

The Trans-Atlantic Finance Institute

( Erasmus University Rotterdam / Fordham University)

 

San Juan, Puerto Rico, March 16 - 17, 2005

 

The Journal of International Money and Finance (JIMF), the Frank J. Petrilli Center for Research in International Finance at Fordham University (CRIF) and the Trans-Atlantic Finance Institute at Erasmus University Rotterdam / Fordham University (TAFI) are jointly organizing a research conference with the principal objective of promoting research on international finance, specifically exchange rates, and bringing together leading academics in the field.

We solicit submission of theoretical and empirical papers that study issues in foreign exchange markets. Topics relevant to the conference include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

·                    Exchange rate modeling and forecasting;

·                    The market microstructure of foreign exchange markets;

·                    Purchasing power parity and uncovered interest parity;

·                    Measuring and managing exchange rate exposure;

·                    International asset pricing;

·                    Central bank intervention in foreign exchange markets;

·                    International financial integration.

Papers presented at the Conference will be considered for publication in a special issue of the Journal of International Money and Finance.

Papers should be emailed as PDF attachments to a.diest@fbk.eur.nl or jimf@fordham.edu. The deadline for paper submission is January 1, 2005. Notification on acceptance will be by early February 2005. Travel grants will be awarded to paper presenters.

"Risk Management and Quantitative Approaches in Finance"

The conference will present state-of-the-art results and latest advances in risk management and finance, including market, credit, and operational risk; algorithms and techniques for portfolio management, optimization and statistical estimation; assets and liability management; optimal trading and execution strategies; simulation and optimization approaches to pricing derivatives. The conference will be organized into several sections, including: (1) modern techniques for portfolio management and optimization; (2) theory and practice of risk management; and (3) modeling financial and energy derivatives; (4) extensions beyond financial markets.

The Editors of JBFA invite submissions of high quality research papers relevant to any of the following areas:

·        Asset pricing: theory and evidence

·        Empirical research on capital market anomalies

·        Market based accounting research

·        Earnings management

·        Economic theories of accounting and accounting-based valuation models

·        Empirical research on the valuation of equities and other securities

·        Investment analysis and portfolio management

Original papers to be considered for the conference should be submitted no later than January 06, 2005, and preferably earlier. Submissions to the conference will be treated as submissions to the Journal of Business Finance and Accounting, and should not be under review with any other journal. All papers will be refereed and decisions on accepted papers will be notified to authors by the end of March 2005. Subject to satisfactory revision, accepted conference papers will be published in a Special Issue of JBFA in 2006. 

Competition for places at the conference is normally high. In the interest of a balanced conference program, some papers may be accepted, subject to revision, for later publication in JBFA, but not for presentation at the conference.

You are encouraged to submit papers in all areas of accounting, banking control and supervision, finance, management, financial economics, Internet and new economy : corporate finance, accounting and auditing, financial markets, investment and financing problems, emerging markets, derivatives, real options, portfolio theory, macro-economics and finance, international finance, international trade, techniques in international trade, international taxation, mathematical finance, econometric issues, statistics, electronic payment, Internet banking, finance and the new economy, financial liberalization and innovation, Entrepreneurial finance, ventures, private equity, transition economies and their problems, open economic issues, foreign direct and portfolio investment, e-commerce, etc.

Three additional workshops will be organized the 3rd March on : Information technologies, Entrepreneurship, venture capital and private equity and Insurance (credit)

Electronic submission is strongly encouraged, but not mandatory. The first page of the paper should contain the title, names, complete address, telephone, fax numbers and e-mail address. If there are multiple authors, please indicate which author will attend and which will present. Also, indicate in your cover letter whether you would be willing to serve as a session chair and/or discussant.  Selected papers can be published in the International Journal of Finance, the International Journal of Business, Journal of Internet Banking and Commerce, Revue du financier and two books in John Wiley and Economica.

 

Deadline :

 

For papers, abstracts and proposals is 30th January 2005.

Authors will be notified as soon as the committee reaches a decision. If the paper is accepted, you must send the final version to the discussant and session chair by mid February 2005.
